Iceland Socks

Time for today's second weird link. Iceland Express has come up with Iceland Socks, a strange little microsite in which the user controls...well...sock puppets. The point? You select a pair of socks and customize their experience in Iceland with a selectioin of video backdrops and custom subtitles. Then, you know, send it to a friend.

There are two links to the Iceland Express website where you can go directly into booking your flight. But where do the sock puppets come from? Why? Is this popular? What's going on?!

Photoshop Lady

Here's another collection of photoshop tutorials. I know that so I get caught up in trying to find "that" tutorial I forgot to bookmark, and now it's lost in some designer's blog, unreachable by Google Earth. The Photoshop Lady has dedicated an entire blog to nothing but, and she's organized them nicely. So the next time you're floundering, have a look-see.

Manbabies

ok, most of me does NOT want to post this in my blog. however.

this site exists. and it's weird. and it's popular enough to have gotten around to my inbox.

so please, be wary when you click through to Manbabies.

Search Engine Optimization

Nick La just posted a great article on SEO on his blog, Web Designer Wall. I highly recommend reading it, whether you're a newbie or well versed in the subject. Nice job!

Found My Animal

Anyone who knows me knows I want a dog. But they also know I regularly don't get home until 10:30 or later, so I can't. sigh. In any case, this new product makes me want to buy a leash, with or without the furry friend.

Found My Animal creates leashes that help "raise public awareness of the urgent need for animal adoption." Proceeds go to a non-profit group that spays/neuters and shelters homeless animals. You can read more about it on the website.

So the idea is a great one, in my opinion, but what's really great to me is the aesthetic value of the leashes. They look wonderful! They have individual brass tags, two brass o-rings and solid bronze clips that make it easy to clip to a post or wrap around your arm, and are made of a thick nautical rope (that they claim is soft, yet strong). Okay, I'm rambling on a bit about a leash, but I just like them. You can even get custom orders for your pet alpaca!

Risky Logo?

I was perusing David Airey's Blog and came across a post about this logo for the Alliance For Climate Protection (hoping to prevent further global warming):

OK. The two aren't matching up for me. Where are these elements coming from? I see nothing to do with ACP or global warming. I see "me" and "we."

an interesting pun, yes. a succesful logo? i'm not sure. i think i likey.

kateshay.com

yes, the day has arrived. after months of research, design, and development, my new portfolio site is up and running. i'm still in QA, but baby, it's go-time.

Seeqpod

Ohhhhh how i like this new tool! thank you, Puppet, for letting me in on it. Seeqpod is a LEGAL search engine with a pretty powerful algorithm that lets you seek out music. No, you don't get to download it (hence the legality), but it's super fast and delivers playable audio and video content. You can discover new music in a Pandora sort of way and even make/edit/save playlists. Rock on.

(You know you like the first song i searched. Thank you, Saturday night.)

Where's Waldo?

Remember the books? Man, whatta gold mine. Well, the little guy in the stripey outfit ain't so little any more. Now he's 50 feet tall and hittin' Google Earth. Where in the world is Waldo? See if you can find him...

You can read more about the project on the artist's blog.
